Once prospective students identify a few colleges and universities from which they would consider earning a master's degree, they should see if any of these schools host information events that provide insight into the graduate programs offered.

If individuals have their sights set on the degree programs offered at Georgia's Valdosta State University (VSU), they may have an interest in attending the school's Graduate Student Week. According to VSU's Web site, this five-day event will run from April 16–20.

Over the course of the week, VSU will offer a series of free educational activities for current and prospective graduate students. On April 16, the university hosts "Is Graduate School for Me?" During this program, Alfred Fuciarelli, dean of VSU's Graduate School, will be on hand to answer any questions attendees may have.

At the Graduate Student Research and Scholarship Symposium on April 20, current master's degree seekers will share the projects they are working on at school with the public. For those who have an interest in continuing their education, this opportunity provides a chance to better understand the life of a graduate student.

In a poor economy, some may have their doubts about applying to graduate programs like the ones offered at VSU. USA Today College suggested that these individuals view graduate school as a long-term investment, and remember that bad economic times are typically followed by good ones.
