As the only law school located in Southwest Florida, Ave Maria School of Law adds a dynamic dimension to the area?s educational and professional landscape. This year, the independent law school will mark her 10-year anniversary, welcoming the largest incoming class to date ? 209 students from nearly every state as well as several other nations.
President and Dean Eugene Milhizer explains that Ave Maria is distinctive from other law schools because it provides an education deeply rooted in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition ? an ancient line of thinking with roots tracing back to the great classical philosophers that drove the rise of the West and the formation of modern educational institutions. Inspired by Pope John Paul II?s great encyclical Fides et Ratio, Ave Maria embraces the philosophy of natural law, the notion that fundamental human rights and legal principles are of divine origin and rise on Earth because human beings are made in God?s image ? and are given the gift of choosing to do good or evil.
Ave Maria?s Mission focuses on five key areas: educating lawyers with the finest professional skills; excellence in teaching; research and scholarship; serving the common good; and building a community. The School?s mission comes to life through the actions of her students, faculty, and leadership ? who study the Mission and incorporate it into their work.
