The Boston University School of Social Work is committed to education that furthers social and economic justice in the urban environment and strives to incorporate this commitment into its curriculum, programs and activities. The School recognizes the ever-changing demands on the profession, attempting to meet them through the highest quality teaching, scholarship, research, practice and political action.
The primary aim of the School is to educate professional social workers who will become leaders in a complex multicultural society. They will possess the knowledge, skills, techniques and values to address the needs and potential of individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. The School offers an integrated program of study including clinical (individuals, families and groups) and macro (community organizing, program development/planning and human services management) social work practice.
The School offers full-time and part-time programs leading to the Master of Social Work (MSW) and PhD degrees. Joint degrees with the School of Public Health, the School of Theology, and the School of Education also are available to students. An advanced standing program is available for graduates of undergraduate accredited social work programs.
