Founded in 1849, Central Connecticut State University is the oldest public institution of higher education in Connecticut and the largest of four comprehensive universities within the Connecticut State University System. CCSU enrolls over 12,000 students. Approximately 2,400 graduate students attend each semester, including some 500 who come for full-time study.

Close to Hartford, the state capital, Central Connecticut State University is easily accessible. The 165-acre suburban campus is located in New Britain, at the center of Connecticut, two hours from Boston, New York City, upper New England ski resorts and Rhode Island beaches.

The University?s School of Graduate Studies administers and coordinates more than 40 programs in Arts and Sciences, Education and Professional Studies, and Technology and Engineering Education. Central Connecticut State University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Some special centers and research institutes which enhance academic programs offered at the University include the:

Elihu Burritt Library holds more than 650,000 volumes, subscribes to more than 3,000 periodical titles and seats 1,800. Extensive microfiche and microfilm collections provide access to periodicals, newspapers, ERIC documents and corporate reports. Its Digital Library Resources provides a gateway to e-journals, indexing and abstracting services and full text resources, such as EbscoHost, Lexis-Nexis and many more. Specialized research materials include Polish Heritage section and Gender Equity section, 16,000 volumes of rare books and curriculum laboratory. CD-ROM, databases and CONSULS facilitate access to additional resources.

The University?s Marcus White Computer Laboratory is outfitted with more than 200 of the latest PCs, 10 Macs, and a full complement of printers and scanners, and it offers all online capabilities. A highly popular facility, it is open seven days a week. Other computer resources are widely available. The campus is wireless, and all computing is supported by the Information Technology office.

Other on-campus facilities include Kaiser Annex, a 37,000-foot recreational/ athletic air-supported structure; the Student Center, offering a bookstore, dining, and meeting and lounge areas; Maloney Hall, an art and theatre center; Welte Hall?s 1,900-seat auditorium; tennis courts and playing fields for varsity sports.

A graduate assistantship program is available through the School of Graduate Studies, as well as other scholarship opportunities. The Federal Stafford Loan program is provided for graduate students who qualify to receive this form of financial assistance. Other sources of need-based assistance may be coordinated by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
