Graduate students can take out loans

Thursday, January 12, 2012
Scholarships can help remove the financial barriers that stand between some students and an advanced degree, and so too can loans. However, before students settle on one particular loan program, they should see what other options are available.

Discover, a direct banking and payment services company, recently announced that it now offers three specialty loans for graduate students though DiscoverStudentLoans.com. The new loans are designed to assist students who are enrolled in law school, MBA and health care-related programs, such as advanced tracks in nursing, dentistry, podiatry and physical therapy.

Students who take advantage of Discover’s new loan programs will face a nine-month grace period, as well as a 20-year repayment schedule. In addition, the variable rates for the loans are lower than the Federal Student Aid office’s Graduate PLUS Loan’s fixed-rate.

"The competitive interest rates of our new graduate loans provide a compelling reason for students in these fields to apply for a loan from Discover," said Steve Olszewski, senior vice president for Discover Student Loans.

Discover has also redesigned its student loan Web site to provide students and parents with more tools and information. Student loan specialists are available 24 hours a day to offer assistance.
