Scholarships available to journalism students
| Wednesday, February 01, 2012 |
Competition is expected to be keen for journalists looking for work over the next six years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While it may take longer for some to find jobs in this field, graduate students may be able to save money through special scholarship programs.
For instance, the Web site for the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University recently reported that graduate students pursuing a master’s degree at the school may be eligible to receive a scholarship if they are of Greek-American heritage.
These students have until March 1 to apply for the Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarships, according to the Web site. Those who are selected will receive $5,000 in memory of the founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle.
In addition to their Greek-American heritage, graduate students must be enrolled in a journalism or communications program and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The Agris family and the Alpha Omega Council of New England have been awarding these scholarships to students for two decades.
At the Reed School, students can pursue a Master of Science in Journalism or Integrated Marketing Communications, the university’s Web site states.
