Students can earn a Doctor of Psychology online
| Wednesday, January 25, 2012 |
In addition to a state license, those who wish to practice psychology typically have to hold a doctoral degree, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). After earning their Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), professionals may be equipped to work as psychologists in the education and health care sectors, as well as other settings.
BLS reports that it can take students about five years to complete their PsyD, which can prove challenging for students who have personal and professional responsibilities outside of academia. However, these individuals should know that it is possible for them to earn this credential over the Internet.
Capella University, a Web-based degree provider, recently announced the launch of a PsyD in School Psychology, which is designed to further the education of licensed school psychologists without having to put their careers on hold.
According to the university’s Web site, students will take online courses in topics such as child and adolescent development, as well as legal and ethical issues at school. In addition to their course work, students will have a chance to gain field experience and graduate teaching opportunities away from the computer.
This program is well-suited for individuals who wish to assume higher education faculty positions, as well as leadership roles throughout the education system, according to the Web site.
