Students can advance their knowledge of religion at the graduate level

Thursday, October 06, 2011
Whether professionals wish to advance their role in the ministry or education sector, they can continue their study of religion through graduate programs in theology.

Several tracks in this area are available to students throughout the country, and now, Loyola University Maryland is set to launch a new Master of Theological Studies program in the fall of 2012. Those who pursue this graduate degree will study such topics as historical, systematic and comparative theology, as well as scripture, languages and ethics.

The 48-credit program takes approximately two years to complete and culminates with a thesis that is worth six credits. As students work their way through the program, they will receive mentoring, advice and guidance from faculty in regards to how they can achieve their academic and professional goals.

According to Reverend James J. Miracky, dean of Loyola College, the university's school of arts and sciences, the master's degree not only meets the needs of today's theology students, but also aligns with the Jesuit university's "mission and identity."

The university's Web site states that the theology faculty is comprised of both Catholic and non-Catholic Christians who help foster an academic environment where lively debate can flourish.
