Registered nurses have a desire to help others. For those who wish to extend the level and quality of care they can provide, choosing to enroll in graduate school is essential. With a master's degree, registered nurses can go on to pursue careers as nurse practitioners, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Although it depends on the state they work in, these professionals often provide primary care and prescribe medications.

Bobby Parker of Alton, Ill., is one nurse who could certainly go down this path, and he has his grandmother to thank for it, The Telegraph reported. Parker, who recently graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a Master of Science in Nursing, chose to follow in the footsteps of his grandmother Mary Ann Horn, who has always had a passion for the profession.

"Grandma is someone I look at with a combination of respect and admiration for so many reasons," Parker told the news source. "My love and admiration for my grandmother is for the person she is. People meet her and she has this loveliness about her. She is always calm and just such a good lady. She inspired me to be a nurse."

A proud Horn was in attendance at her grandson's graduation ceremony, shedding tears of joy.
