John Brown University (JBU) is a Christian university committed to providing quality academics to the over 2,100 graduate and undergraduate students it serves. The University was founded in Northwest Arkansas in 1919 and now offers undergraduate degrees in nearly 50 major areas of study and 9 graduate degree programs in the areas of business and counseling with plans to begin a graduate degree program in education in fall 2012. JBU?s mission is to provide Christ-centered education that prepares people to honor God and serve others by developing their intellectual, spiritual and professional lives. The university has no denominational affiliation and admits students of any faith.
JBU is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. JBU has also received specialized accreditation for its graduate business programs by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and is a candidate for accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and programs (ACBSP). Its graduate counseling programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The university employs nearly 100 full-time faculty, 75 percent of whom hold a PhD or terminal degree, and over 50 adjunct faculty.
The Community
JBU is located in the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area (Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers) where recent census date reports nearly 500,000 people reside. The area is consistently named as a top ten place to live and do business by organizations such as Forbes and the Milkin Institute.
Although the main campus of John Brown University is 20 miles west of the main metropolitan area in the town of Siloam Springs, JBU also has educational centers in the center of the main area (Rogers) and 50 miles south in Fort Smith. Each center is outfitted with seminar style classrooms, computers with internet access, comfortable lounge areas for students, and the latest in technical equipment.
Graduate business courses are held at the Rogers and Fort Smith Centers, at Wal-Mart?s Sam Walton Development Center in Bentonville, Arkansas, and online. Graduate counseling courses are held at the Rogers and Fort Smith Centers and on the main campus. All graduate business programs can be completed online and about one-third of the counseling programs can be taken online.
Programs of Study
Degree programs include an MBA with an emphasis in Leadership and Ethics, International Business, or for Wal-Mart associates only, Global Continuous Improvement, M.S. in Leadership and Ethics, M.S. in Leadership and Higher Education, M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy, MS in Community Counseling, M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Community Counseling and M.S. in School Counseling.
Facilities and Resources
John Brown University?s library holds over 120,000 items in its collections (including 6,000 periodical titles and 11,000 e-books) and offers a variety of services, such as individual and group instruction sessions, and efficient interlibrary loan. JBU graduate students have access to numerous online search engines such as EBSCO Host, ProQuest, Gale Online Resources and JSTOR as well as other online resources, including ABI Inform Complete, LexisNexis Academic, Business Source Elite, Wall Street Journal, and more.
Financial Aid
The financial aid program available through the Graduate School at John Brown University provides several types of aid for students who qualify, including loans, scholarships and fellowships.
