Learn about renewable energy at the graduate level online

Whether motorists are driving through a rural area or along a coastline, they may spot one or more wind turbines in the distance. These towering devices are becoming more popular as a greater number of people express a desire to live greener lives. This, in turn, is expected to increase job opportunities for those interested in wind energy, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Of course, wind energy is not the only green field that is growing in a more environmentally conscious world. To meet the demand for academic programs focused on green career training, the Pennsylvania State University has created the Intercollege Master of Professional Studies in Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems (iMPS-RESS) degree program, which will be available online, Penn State's Web site reported.

Students who enroll in the program will receive foundational knowledge in sustainability and renewable energy systems. By the end of their studies, these individuals are expected to know how to develop or manage these systems, according to Daniel Ciolkosz, the degree's academic program coordinator, told the Web site.

"Options in bioenergy, sustainability management and policy, solar energy and wind energy will allow students to tailor the degree to their career goals," Ciolkosz said.
