Founded in 1974, Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology is one of the leading fully accredited institutions in the field of Psychology. The School offers Doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) with three concentration tracks, and a School Psychology (PsyD). Master?s programs in School Psychology (MA/CAGS), Counseling Psychology (MA), Organizational Psychology (MA), Forensic Psychology (MA), Higher Education Student Personnel Administration (MA),and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching, continuing education courses, a Clinical Psychology Respecialization program for psychologists, online Graduate Psychology Preparatory Courses (GPPC)and a variety of non-matriculating courses.
The educational philosophy of the MSPP programs is evident in several characteristics which distinguish it from traditional models. First, course content is designed to provide foundation for professional practice. Second, students are required to be in field placements each level of the program, with most courses designed to integrate course work with clinical experience. Third, students are taught by skilled practitioners, qualified to teach at the graduate level and experienced in the application of their knowledge. The approach of the Doctoral Projects and Capstone MA Projects are broad in scope allowing students to choose among research designs which include quantitative analysis, phenomenological research, demonstration projects, theoretical analysis or case studies. These projects are approved by the student?s committee and is presented to the public as a scholarly work and a celebration.
In the Clinical Psychology (PsyD) doctoral program, the first two years of the curriculum provide each student with a broad base of theoretical knowledge and clinical experience. The second two years enable the student to become a competent practitioner able to diagnose and treat psychological problems. These latter years reinforce the student?s commitment to his/her professional development and the sharing of knowledge with others. Optional concentration tracks are available in Forensic, Health, Childhood, Adolescence and Family Therapy, and Latino Mental Health.
Master of Arts (MA) in Forensic and Counseling Psychology program, is an excellent choice for those interested in working in such settings as court clinics, forensic units, correctional facilities, child advocacy centers, and forensic assessment and treatment facilities. It is a 60 credit two-year program with core requirements in areas such as law and mental health, counseling theory and technique, diversity and cross cultural psychology as well as community consultation. As with other MSPP programs there is an intensive clinical training component in each year of the program. Designed with the working professional in mind, this program offer?s a blended approach to learning combining online courses and monthly weekend seminars. Similar to the 60 credit, two-year Counseling Psychology program (MA), the Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology program prepares individuals to function as professional licensed mental health counselors (LMHC). The concentration in Latino Mental Health is offered in both the Forensic and Counseling psychology programs.
Master of Arts (MA) in Organizational Psychology: An intensive 10-month, 30-credit degree program designed for working professionals who desire to expand, deepen, and sharpen their skills in leading and sustaining changes in organizations. Each course is scheduled to begin at an onsite monthly intensive weekend which is followed by and integrated with online and distance learning modules to accommodate the work and family schedules of students.
This program is designed for early to mid-career professionals from a range of educational and work backgrounds. It is geared for practitioners within organizations and external consultants who want a greater theoretical foundation and intensive practice in Organizational Psychology. Minimum requirements are a BS or BA degree and at least 2 years of training or experience in business and a background in one of the following areas: human resources, organizational development, organizational training, management, education, psychology, social work, or in a related business, education, or mental health field.
Master of Arts (MA) in Applied Psychology: Higher Education Student Personnel Administration is a 30 credit blended program. This unique program is designed for students or higher education professionals looking to build or develop a career in student services. The program prepares students to deliver critically important skills in the areas of Student Counseling and Relationship Building. The blended curriculum offers flexible learning opportunities for working professionals.
The Dr. Cynthia Lucero Center Latino Mental Health Program offers a unique opportunity for students who are interested in working with Latinos. This concentration, available in many MSSP degree programs, offers intensive immersion in Spanish langauge and Hispanic cultures to prepare students as culturally sensitive clinicians with expertise to meet the rapidly growing and underserved segment of the U.S. population.
MSPP is fully-accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., the American Psychological Association (APA), and is authorized by the Board of Regents of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. MSPP's MA/CAGS in School Psychology is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). MSPP is also a charter member of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology.
MSPP is listed as a Designated Program in Clinical Psychology by the Council for the National Register of Health Service Providers, and graduates are eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Graduates meet the educational requirements for licensure in Massachusetts and health provider certification of the Board of Registration of Psychologists in Massachusetts. Graduates are eligible to sit for licensing examination following completion of the mandatory post-master?s and post-doctoral clinical requirements.
