When exploring options to make education more affordable, graduate students are sometimes fortunate enough to receive financial assistance from their school. Even if this is not the case, students can find scholarship programs outside of academia.

Those who are working toward their first master’s or doctorate degree in nursing may be able to receive financial assistance beginning in the fall of 2012 thanks to a new scholarship program from Medical Solutions, a travel nursing company. According to a press release, three awards, each worth $1,000, will be given to eligible students.

"For a student to have the opportunity for a scholarship, this takes some of the stressors out of school and allows them to concentrate on learning nursing fundamentals and how to provide excellent patient care," said Amber Barna, Medical Solutions’ manager of clinical & quality services.

In order to be eligible for one of the company’s scholarships, students must answer the question, "How would you define a nurse?" in 250 words before June 4. Furthermore, they have to have a grade point average of at least 2.75 and must be prepared to provide a list of community services they provided within the last four years if selected.
