Professionals can enhance their managerial skills online

On their way to becoming top executives, such as chief executive officers or chief financial officers, individuals might make a stop at business school to earn an MBA. After all, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that a number of top executives often have this master's degree or a credential in an area that relates to the field they work in.

However, enrolling in MBA programs is not the only way for students to enhance their business knowledge and managerial skills. These individuals could also pursue a Master of Science in Management, Strategy and Leadership. A degree of this nature will soon be available online through Michigan State University.

In a recent press release, the university announced that classes for the program will begin January 6, 2014.

"Unlike an MBA, which focuses on core disciplines such as accounting, marketing, finance and operations, this degree hones in on the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and motivate people, improve a company's competitive position, and create and execute organizational change," said Robert Wiseman, the Eli Broad Legacy Fellow of Management.

The online degree program also places a focus on convenience. In addition to its Web-based format, which allows students to take courses whenever they want, the degree can be completed in as little as 20 months.
