MISSION
Saint Peter's College, inspired by its Jesuit, Catholic identity, commitment to individual attention and grounding in the liberal arts, educates a diverse community of learners in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs to excel intellectually, lead ethically, serve compassionately and promote justice in our ever-changing urban and global environment.
GRADUATE EDUCATION PROGRAMS
In 1979 the College introduced its first graduate program in Education. Students can earn a Master of Arts degree in the following areas of concentration: Educational Leadership, Teaching, Special Education, School Counseling, and Reading; each concentration prepares teachers for certification by the State of New Jersey. Programs are offered on a semester basis and classes meet in the late afternoons and evenings. Summer sessions are also available. In fall 2010, the College launched the Doctor of Education program in Educational Leadership. The program prepares current district/school administrators, educational leaders, and classroom teachers to take on district leadership roles in K through 12th grade settings.
For persons who earned their undergraduate degrees in an area other than education and want to be certified to teach in the state of New Jersey, the College offers a 26-credit teacher certification program. The program consists of six courses (18 credits) in addition to eight credits in student teaching. Additional certification programs include: Director of School Counseling Services, Professional/Associate Counselor, Teacher of Students with Disabilities, Supervisor of Instruction, School Business Administrator and Middle School Mathematics.
GRADUATE BUSINESS PROGRAMS
In 1988 the College introduced a graduate program leading to a Master of Business Administration. The MBA program has eight areas of study: Finance, Marketing, Management, International Business, Health Care Administration, Management Information Systems, Human Resource Management, and Risk Management. The program is comprised of 48 credits and is offered on a trimester calendar. Individuals with undergraduate credits in accounting, statistics, computer science and economics may complete the program in 36 credits.
As the complexity of the business world intensifies, demands upon accounting professionals grow. Therefore, Saint Peter's has a 30-credit Master of Science in Accountancy degree program which provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for a career in accounting professional services, risk management and compliance. Similar to the MBA program, the MS in Accountancy runs on a trimester calendar, with courses offered in the evenings and on weekends. For motivated students, a MBA/MS in Accountancy dual degree option is also available.
GRADUATE NURSING PROGRAMS
In fall 2010, the College launched the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. The Doctor of Nursing Practice is the highest degree for nurses engaged in advanced practice and those who wish to impact the quality and standards of care for those in need of or receiving services from the health care system. Two tracks are available: Advance Practice Role (Direct or Clinical) and the Nurse Executive / Administrative Role (Indirect or Non-clinical).
The Master of Science in Nursing offers two areas of specialization: Adult Nurse Practitioner and Case Management with a functional concentration in Nursing Administration. Both options consist of core courses that provide a foundation in graduate study and theoretical and clinical practica. The 37-credit MSN in Case Management is offered on a trimester basis. The 39-credit MSN in Adult Nurse Practitioner is offered on a combined trimester/semester schedule.
For nurses who already possess a master's degree in Nursing and want to earn a certificate as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, a 25-credit post-master's certificate is offered.
The College also offers an RN to MSN Bridge Program for registered nurses who hold bachelor's degrees in fields other than Nursing. The program consists of one four-credit bridge course as well as an undergraduate course in Statistics and Nursing Research. In addition, all policies, requirements and procedures for admission into the MSN program apply.
GRADUATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAM
The College launched a new Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration program in fall 2010. Specializations are offered in police administration and federal law enforcement agency administration. The program prepares professionals to ethically lead a diverse workforce within service-oriented governmental and non-profit organizations. The goals of the program are to assist students in acquiring an understanding of theoretical and practical concepts, attainment of expert knowledge of the field as well as superior management skills necessary for strategic decision-making and leadership. This program offers flexible class schedules on the trimester calendar.
Graduate programs are available on the Jersey City and Englewood Cliffs campuses. The main campus in Jersey City is 12 minutes from Manhattan by PATH train. The branch campus at Englewood Cliffs is one mile north of the George Washington Bridge.
