Southwestern College offers master?s degrees in counseling and art therapy. It?s experiential-based programs are two academic years in length. Year one emphasizes personal psychological transformation, insight into the nature of character development, the human condition and understanding the nature of change as applied in the helping professions. In year two, emphasis is on professional identity and the development of strong clinical skills.
Master?s in Counseling: Integrates effective, transpersonal modes of counseling, incorporating all levels of psychological functioning: imaginal, emotional, mental, and spiritual. This holistic approach fosters a creative sense of self and the potential for change.
Master?s in Art Therapy/Counseling: Emphasizes the visual arts as a powerful therapeutic approach in clinical, educational, forensic, community, and rehabilitation settings. While visual art is the primary therapeutic modality, the creative process is supported by classroom instruction and experiences in the use of drama, movement, and music.
In addition to the master?s programs, Southwestern offers strong Certificate Programs in grief counseling, psychodrama and action methods, eco-psychology, and somatic studies.
