Those interested in attending a graduate school fair may assume the event will only focus on the school that is hosting it. However, this is not always the case.

For instance, in a post on its Web site, Western Michigan University (WMU) announced that it will hold its 2012 Graduate and Professional School Fair on October 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. Prospective students who attend the event on WMU's main campus will not only get to learn about the university's graduate programs, but those of other colleges and universities throughout Michigan and the U.S. as well.

Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, Cleary University and Midwestern University will all send representatives to the fair. Overall, officials from more than 50 graduate, medical and law programs will be on hand to help prospective students find the right school for them.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in Michigan gradually rose from 8.3 percent in April to 9.0 percent in July. If residents are struggling to find work during trying economic times, attending a graduate school fair may be the first step toward enhancing their credentials and, as a result, their employability.
