When individuals want to learn about specific graduate programs, they may visit school Web sites or get in touch with people who have earned the types of advanced degrees that interest them. Something else prospective students might want to consider is attending graduate school information sessions.

Wilkes University in Pennsylvania is a school that is set to host one of these informative events December 2. According to Wilkes' Web site, this particular information session is aimed at adults interested in pursuing an advanced degree or certification in their field of choice.

Faculty will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss the university's various graduate offerings, including master's degrees in bioengineering, business administration, creative writing, education, mathematics and nursing, among others. Those in attendance can also learn about the doctoral programs in education and nursing available at Wilkes.

Now is certainly a good time for individuals to pursue several of these advanced degrees, based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. For example, job opportunities for postsecondary education administrators, who typically hold a PhD, are expected to rise by 19 percent through 2020. Meanwhile, biomedical engineers face especially strong job prospects, with a 62 percent employment increase projected over the same time frame.
