Excelsior College, a respected world leader in distance education, offers online three master’s-level degree programs: one in liberal studies, one in nursing with a specialization in clinical systems management or nursing education (and a RN-MS option), and an MBA (Master of Business Administration). There is also a post-baccalaureate certificate program in health care informatics. These programs provide adult learners with access to flexible programs of study at a distance. Excelsior College graduate degrees can help you advance your career, prepare for success in further academic study, and achieve personal satisfaction through an advanced academic degree.
Master of Arts in Liberal Studies
The Excelsior College Master of Arts in Liberal Studies offers an efficient way to enhance your career and personal growth. Transfer up to 15 graduate-level credits – nearly half the 33 credits required for the degree – from other institutions. This flexible program allows self-paced study as well as semester-long and accelerated formats. Start with interdisciplinary core courses, gain competence in two or more disciplines, and then customize your program with in-depth study on a topic of your choice. Focus your studies to match your interests and career goals by choosing one of five new tracks: “Issues in Today’s Society,” “Global Strategies,” “Educational Leadership,” "Natural Science and Society," and “Self-Design." Earn transfer credit through approved NYSUT courses for New York State teachers and graduate-level ACE-approved military education. The GRE is not required for admission to this program, which was the first exclusively distance learning-based program to be admitted to full membership in to the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs (AGLSP). This program is suitable for working professionals seeking to diversify in a rapidly evolving economy, teachers who, in many states, must have a master's degree for permanent certification, active-duty and deployed military, academic librarians seeking a second master’s degree, college professionals who need a master's for promotion, those looking to enhance their qualifications for a Ph.D. program or anyone who requires a master’s degree to achieve career, personal, and professional objectives.
Master of Science in Nursing (Clinical Systems Management or Nursing Education)
Excelsior College, the world’s largest educator of nurses at a distance, offers the online Master of Science in Nursing (MS in nursing) with two specializations: Clinical Systems Management, a 38-credit program providing students advanced knowledge of the practice of nursing and the health care delivery system; and Nursing Education, a 39-credit program which qualifies graduates for the role of nurse educator in undergraduate nursing programs and clinical settings. Designed by nationally recognized leaders in their fields, Excelsior’s master’s program is NLNAC-accredited.
This innovative distance program enables highly motivated, self-directed working RNs to complete nearly all requirements online, consulting with Excelsior College faculty and collaborating with peers at a distance, and to access a rich array of student services, including a virtual library offered in partnership with the Sheridan Libraries of The Johns Hopkins University.
RNs qualify with a bachelor’s degree in nursing or in another discipline. The MS in nursing curriculum is divided into three phases. Phase I consists of nursing core courses. Phase II consists of courses in clinical systems management courses or nursing education (plus an elective); Phase III, the on-site Capstone Experience, including leadership retreat, for Clinical Systems Management or the Capstone Preceptor–guided Practicum for Nursing Education. A RN-MS in nursing degree program and graduate-level 17-credit Certificate in Health Care Informatics are also available. The GRE is not required for admission to this program.
