Graduate Business Schools

At many graduate business schools, you can expect multiple rounds of applications and interviews.

Applying to graduate school in business is a labor-intensive process. Never mind the years of work that have gone in to getting you to this point, such as the grades, the test prep, and the real world experience. At many graduate business schools, you can expect multiple rounds of applications and interviews. To maximize your chances, you must know what you're getting yourself into and how to work the system to your advantage.

Maintaining a Critical Edge
If you think getting into business school is all about grades and test scores, think again. Much of getting in is about learning how to work the application process to your advantage. This is tough given that the process varies widely according to the school. For example, some schools rely on multiple rounds of applications throughout the academic year. You might be able to submit in fall, winter, or early spring for a traditional September start date, with applications pooled and compared at regular intervals. The alternative to this approach is a rolling admissions system in which you can apply at any time and have a more immediate response.

The type of admissions process determines where, when, and how you should apply. A rolling admissions system may use more objective criteria (i.e., grades, test scores) to make quick decisions. Alternatively, a traditional admissions system may allow for a more detailed assessment of each individual application. You'll want to keep these differences in mind as you apply, thinking carefully about the system that will work to your advantage.
