Before individuals can advance their banking career to the executive level and oversee the daily operations of large organizations, they must have considerable work experience. In addition, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that those who run large corporations typically hold an MBA.

Professionals who are looking to take their career in the banking industry to the next level can certainly pursue an MBA, or they can work toward earning a Master of Science in Banking and Financial Services. Such a program will soon be available at Northern State University in South Dakota, according to the school’s Web site.

The university has designed this program to prepare students for the intense competition they are expected to face in the banking industry. In addition, officials from the South Dakota Division of Banking have noticed a need for educated personnel to manage the state’s chartered banks, according to the Web site.

Once the university’s program begins in the fall of 2012, it will be delivered online. According to KDLT News, this will provide bankers throughout South Dakota with an opportunity to advance their education without having to commute to class or relocate closer to Northern State’s campus in Aberdeen.
